Nachdem die SEC Leerverkäufe bei großen Kredithäusern strengreguliert hat, steigt die Short-Quote bei denen kleinen Banken aufRekordniveau.
Teilweise sind die Anleger in einzelnen Titeln über 30%short, gemessen an den ausstehenden Aktien. Das sind redkordverdächtige Zahlenund ein Alarmzeichen zugleich.
Allein bei dem relativ großen Instiut Washington Mutualstieg die Short-Qutoe auf 341 Millionen Aktien oder 32,3% der ausstehenden Aktien.

Short interest rose sharply in shares of banks not includedin the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's emergency ruleto curb abusive short-selling. Shares of these banks have beenunder pressure because of worries related to the credit crisisand the housing slump.
- Short interest in Washington Mutual was up 24.5 percent at 341.1 million, or 32.3 percent of its shares outstanding;
- Wachovia short interest rose 6.8 percent to 278.4 million, or 13 percent of its shares outstanding.
- For KeyCorp, short interest was up 32.4 percent, at 24.6 million, or 5 percent of its shares outstanding.
- Regions Financial Corp short interest climbed 25.2 percent to 99.9 million, or 14.4 percent of its shares outstanding.
- National City Corp short interest rose 3.8 percent to 162.4 million, or 21.3 percent of its shares outstanding.
- Wells Fargo short interest was up 6.5 percent at 173.2 million, or 5.2 percent of its shares outstanding.
